Campaign Update February 1, 2010

Dear Friend and Supporters:

We are down to the wire! There are four weeks to the primary election and two weeks left until the first vote is cast. Your support and hard work has been tremendous and I truly appreciate it.

WALKING: We are on target to meet our goal, but we are not done yet! I am hoping that this next weekend will be our biggest walk yet. We need everyone to show up, and bring a friend. What a message we will send to the community if we can have the city blanketed with our volunteers. We will be meeting at one location, at 10:00 in central El Paso for everyone's convenience and so that we can all gather together. The location is Display Services Inc., 821 North Raynor. This is where we met when we distributed the large 4 x 4 signs. You can park across the street in the Alamo Ballroom parking lot. Please let me know if you can make it and how many people you will be bringing with you, so that we can be sure to have enough refreshments. After Saturday, we have only one more Saturday to walk.

PHONE BANKING: We have also started our phone banking. For those that would like to phone bank during the week, please contact my sister, Judy Austin at djaustinaf@yahoo.com and she can get you a packet. If you would prefer to phone bank on Saturday, the AFSME union is sponsoring a phone bank at 911 Dallas. Just bring your phone and your phone charger. We had several volunteers there this past Saturday and they were able to reach a lot of voters. If you do plan to phone bank Saturday, please join us anyway on Saturday morning so you can participate in our little rally!

FUNDRAISER: We have a fundraiser scheduled for Tuesday, February 9, details to be announced. Please make plans to join us. More details to come.

FORUMS: There are still lots of forums scheduled but the big one is the East Side Civic Association, this Thursday on the East Side at YISD central office. Your attendance makes a huge difference and makes a strong showing of support. Please join me on Thursday at 7:00

YARD SIGNS: We now have yard signs!! We will have yard signs with us on Saturday so you can pick some up when you get there. If you need signs before Saturday, please contact either Manny Romero (920-0857) or Ralph Girvin (356-8114) and they may be able to make arrangements to get signs to you.

EARLY VOTING AND ELECTION DAY ACTIVITIES: Gabriella Edwards-Holguin has graciously volunteered to coordinate polling site coverage for early voting. We need volunteers to cover the polling sites and mobile voting sites for early voting, which is February 16 thru the 26th. There are 12 permanent early voting sites and 4 mobile voting sites. For those who may be willing to take some vacation time to volunteer, please contact Gabriella at 920-8223 so that she can make a schedule. The more volunteers we have, the more polling sites we can cover!

Gabriella has also agreed to coordinate polling site coverage for the election on March 2. There over 140 different precincts in this County. We want to cover as many as possible. Please contact Gabriella if you can volunteer on election day.

Finally, the first mailer was sent on Friday and most people received it Saturday or today. Our commercials start in English tomorrow and will air in Spanish by the end of the week.
